My lovely guest reviewer, Mandi, has reviewed three of Pepper Winter's books for us in anticipation of the upcoming release of Twisted Together.
As Mandi likes to describe, Pepper writes dark & twisty deliciousness. Enjoy her take on Tears of Tess, Quintessentially Q and Destroyed!
"My life was complete. Happy, content, everything neat and perfect. Then it all changed.I was sold."
For their two year anniversary, Brax surprises Tess with a romantic trip to Mexico. Sandy beaches, delicious cocktails, and soul-connecting sex set the mood for a wonderful holiday. With a full heart, and looking forward to a passion filled week, Tess is on top of the world.
But lusty paradise is shattered.
Kidnapped. Drugged. Stolen. Tess is forced into a world full of darkness and terror.
Captive and alone with no savior, no lover, no faith, no future, Tess evolves from terrified girl to fierce fighter. But no matter her strength, it can't save her from the horror of being sold.
Can Brax find Tess before she's broken and ruined, or will Tess's new owner change her life forever?

This
is one of those books that people absolutely love or hate because it takes them
completely out of their comfort zone. Me, I absolutely loved every single dark
and twisted moment of this sensual and smoking hot story. I’m not sure what
that says about me but there it is, I am not ashamed. Pepper has a way of
taking you to the very edge of darkness and then slowly pulling you back so as
not to completely submerse you. You are left reeling throughout the book
wondering how much more can one person take and how long can she possibly fight
off her sexy as sin FRENCH, yes I said French speaking Master who just may not
be the Monster that she believes him to be…or maybe he is. TOT, as many of us have lovingly dubbed it,
is not for the faint of heart as it does touch on some delicate subjects like
human trafficking and rape but if you can handle some dark with your dirty then
Pepper is your girl and you need to dive into TOT sooner rather than later
because once you finish it NOTHING will keep you from reading book two in the
Monsters in the Dark series.
“All my life, I battled with the knowledge I was twisted… screwed up to want something so deliciously dark—wrong on so many levels. But then slave fifty-eight entered my world. Hissing, fighting, with a core of iron, she showed me an existence where two wrongs do make a right."
Tess is Q’s completely.
Q is Tess’s irrevocably.
But now, they must learn the boundaries of their unconventional relationship, while Tess seeks vengeance on the men who sold her. Q made a blood-oath to deliver their corpses at Tess’s feet, and that’s just what he’ll do.
He may be a monster, but he’s Tess’s monster.
Let’s start with me telling you that I cannot torture myself for another minute trying to spell this one and that from here on out I will refer to this little masterpiece as QQ! Now that I have that out of the way I need for you to get ready to question everything you think you know about yourself and the kind of men you usually go for because Pepper is about to blow that straight to hell! This book is probably darker and a whole lot grittier than TOT but in a totally different way. Nothing can prepare you for the absolute f*ckery that is going to go down in this book, NOTHING! Peppers’ writing is brilliant and her characters come through so clearly there is no way that you can NOT get wrapped up in them. I can’t go into too much detail because it’s one of those stories that you have to become acquainted with on your own and any little slip from me will ruin what Pepper has so masterfully laid out for you. I will tell you that if you think you loved Q in TOT, which I know you did if you’re smart and getting ready to read QQ, and then get ready to fall even harder for him in this book! I read it weeks ago and I still find myself thinking about a sexy French man with tattoos that have me donning my swoony pants and an accent that makes me want to drop said swoony pants. What? It’s a word. Well, it is now anyway! I will never look at a sparrow again without thinking of Q and his Esclave. And I will never stop trying to convince my husband that he should learn French and call me his Esclave and to whisper “Je suis a toi,’’ to me, especially if he wants to get lucky. Now do you believe me when I tell you swoony is a word?
I'm complicated. Not broken or ruined or running from a past I can't face. Just complicated.
I thought my life couldn't get any more tangled in deceit and confusion. But I hadn't met him. I hadn't realized how far I could fall or what I'd have do to get free.
He has a secret.
I've never pretended to be good or deserving. I chase who I want, do what I want, act how I want.
I didn't have time to lust after a woman I had no right to lust after. I told myself to shut up and stay hidden. But then she tried to run. I'd tasted what she could offer me and damned if I would let her go.
Secrets destroy them.

Destroyed is a complicated love story between a man with a terrible past and a woman who holds his cure. A man who finds redemption in love and a woman who loses her heart and reason for living.
Death brings life, and destruction brings new beginnings.

So I am pretty sure that I have warned before that I
am a SAILOR and boy oh F***ing boy did this book make me sail! That little
intro is a bit of a warning that this review is going to be riddled with the
fun word, though I will make them all symboly (it’s a word…now) and what not I
just wanted to give you a heads up so you weren’t searching for your secret
decoder ring whilst covering your sensitive little eyes. ;) I am not even sure
where to start because the only thing running through my mind is “F*** ME THIS
F***ING BOOK IS F***ING BRILLIANT” but I’m pretty sure that you need a bit more
so I’m going to do my best to put on my classy pants and explain to you what
that means.
It’s no secret that Pepper blew me away with Tears
of Tess and Quintessentially Q, made me a lifelong fan no matter what she writes
from here on out. I knew after reading those two that I would love anything she
did. HOWEVER, Destroyed brought her to a whole other level with me. I remember
messaging a friend saying “She’s stupid, STUPID talented! How does a person’s
mind work like this?!” I was completely and utterly in awe of every word that
she wrote and by 6% I was lusting after Roan “Fox” so hard! I was on the
treadmill at the gym texting people about just how badass he was and what I
would do to them if they didn’t start reading it. Just in that short time I
knew that this man was not only going to own our Heroine Hazel “Zel” but also
me. He was so raw, and volatile, dangerous and dark I was f***ing done at 6
mother f***ing percent, he had me. I don’t make a secret that heroines in books
usually don’t matter much to me, I am without a doubt a hero whore but Zel was
different. She was fierce and brave not a simpering girl using her wiles to get
the man but a strong woman taking what he needed to give her and coming back
for more. Of course she had a hidden agenda, don’t we all? But, hers was a
legit, sell your soul to the devil kind of agenda and she never wavered no
matter what he threw at her and throw he did!
Fox is a scary as hell badass motha and will make
you love him, hate him, want to soothe and console him just to make you hate
him all over again while you fall deeper and deeper in love and lust with his complicated
self. He is a broken, violent man with a
dark and tragic past and he sees Zel as his cure, his savior and his angel.
Normally I would say that’s a lot to f***ing put on somebody but again not her,
she’s one of the strongest heroine’s I have ever read which I FLOVE Pepper for.
She has a knack for writing a strong female character which puts her leading
ladies at the top of my book girlfriends list! They both have secrets, pasts
and presents that would break the other so they do their best to keep them
hidden. He tells her enough to keep her safe, as safe as she can be and she
tells him nothing. That is until her
secrets are staring them in the face giving her no other choice but to share
every part of her with him.
