12 Smart & Savvy Days of Christmas - Day 9 - Interview with Mandi Beck

Happy New Year! I hope yours was great. Did you make any resolutions, goals or plans for 2015? I've got a few in the works, both personally and professionally and can't wait to start working on them. For Day 9 today, debut author Mandi Beck stopped by for a fun interview. Welcome Mandi!

What is your funniest holiday memory?

It’s not a Christmas memory but Thanksgiving. My brother in law came in (he wasn't my brother in  law yet) for Turkey day and I was cooking. Made the whole shebang, turkey, ham, sweet potatoes etc. Everyone is fixing their plates and the two Beck boys aren't taking sweet potatoes so I call them out on in and they immediately pile some on their plates. About half way through the meal they ask why I’m not eating any sweet potatoes to which I reply, “Ewww! I hate them!” They were so mad! LOL Apparently they  hate them too and were just trying to be polite! That was the last time that I made sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving.

What are your favorite Christmas traditions? Do you have any unique ones?

I love everything Disney! My Christmas tree (yes I call it “my”) is all Disney (white lights, black and red balls ala Mickey Mouse) so every year I buy everyone in our family a Disney ornament that we open on Christmas Eve along with our Christmas jammies and then we add the new ornaments to the tree. It’s my favorite part of Christmas. Unique huh? Not really. My family is Catholic Italians so we don’t eat meat on Christmas Eve. It’s all seafood and pasta for us. Then on Christmas morning we eat homemade sfogliatelle (flaky ricotta filled Italian pastry) while we drink our coffee and open our presents. It’s by far my favorite holiday.

What are your must watch holiday movies and/or Television specials?

I am totally crazy about the 25 days of Christmas on ABC family! I love Christmas movies! I love the new as well as the classics. I think that A Christmas Story is my number one must watch still though. I watch the marathon probably longer than I should!

Holiday music - love it or hate it and why?

I drive my husband CRAZY with holiday music! I am one of those a$$holes who starts playing it November first and doesn’t stop til Mid January at the earliest! I love everything about it!

What is the funniest and/or weirdest thing a reader has ever asked you?

Technically I don’t have readers yet, but when I get some, I’ll let you know ;)

Which book of yours would you want to see made into a movie or tv series and who would you want to play the lead roles?

Tough one! ;)  I’ll go with my debut because, one: It’s the only book I've written and two: I think it would make a pretty awesome movie! LOL I’m not biased or anything! I don’t know who I would have play my characters though! I have yet to find someone who fits the mold perfectly.

What are your must-haves when you write?  Do you have any quirks like something you like to eat or drink while writing?

I have to have coffee, seltzer water and I prefer Mambas but I have a hard time finding them so anything sweet and fruity will do! I also have to listen to music but it has to be through headphones and not the speakers because then it distracts me. Weird, I know.

What three books would you bring with you if you were stranded on a desert island?  Why those books?

I’d rather pick my favorite child than try to narrow it down to three books I can’t live without! LOL

  1. I'm hoping to be able to get out of town this year. We haven't been able to do anything in way too many years. My husband will take off work for a week each year, but it's extra work for me because i have twice as much cooking and cleaning to do. So, I haven't had any kind of break in probably 5 years.
