Today the spotlight is shining on M.C.Decker and her latest release, Unscripted!

Sometimes life isn’t always that perfect script.

After a decade of searching for happiness, Brooke Anderson finally found what she was looking for when she collided with the one she let get away.

The devastatingly handsome Rich Davis not only offered Brooke her dream job, but his heart as well.

Just when everything seemed like a perfectly scripted fairy tale — tragedy struck.

Will Rich and Brooke’s love survive? Will their script finally end in the Happily Ever After they both so desperately desire?

Prologue
December 2012

It’s been three months since my life changed in the blink of an eye. I was planning a wedding to the most amazing man – a man who I already thought I’d lost once. Fortunately, he hadn’t given up on us and he had found me again. In the short time we were together, he taught me to trust – to trust in love, to trust in him and to trust in us.
I was an up-and-coming, government editor at the Washington Post – partly because of Rich and partly because of my hard work, perseverance and dedication. I loved my job. It was my dream come true.
Rich had also given me the best gift possible when I found out that I was pregnant. At the time, I didn’t know I even wanted children of my own. It wasn’t really something I thought too much about. I was over thirty and hadn’t been in a committed relationship for a number of years, but once I saw those two little pink lines – I wanted nothing more than to be a mom.
We were planning a Christmas wedding. I knew I would be showing by then, but I had always dreamt of getting married surrounded by glowing evergreens. In fact, Rich and his best man, Blake, had already used their connections and secured the Weather Room on the sixty-seventh floor of Rockefeller Center. Typically, the room was only available from January through mid-November, but Rich and Blake were quite a team and once they batted their eyelashes a few times, the event coordinator caved and allowed us to rent the private space for December 15.
It would have been beautiful, overlooking the magical tree that Rich had taken me to a year earlier. I was so stubborn at that point. If only I had opened my heart to him then, maybe I wouldn’t be sitting here alone now – on the same day that was supposed to be the happiest day of my life.
Just as the first of the day’s tears started trickling down my cheeks, I heard a light knocking on my door. Seriously, I feel like I’d been crying since that day in September. I didn’t think it was possible to have so many tears stored in the human body. I was hoping that eventually they would just dry up, but I was starting to believe that would never happen.
Rising from the couch, I padded my way to the front door. Looking out the peephole, I saw Cassidy waving at me from the other side. I was relieved to know I wouldn’t have to spend the afternoon alone. Earlier, I had insisted that my father go out for the afternoon even though he reassured me time and again that he would cancel his plans.
I had moved back to Michigan right before Thanksgiving. I tried to make it work in Washington D.C. and at the Post, but it was just too difficult. The memories, idle curiosity and constant condolences proved to be too much. I knew everyone meant well, but I just needed to grieve my loss on my own.
I opened the door to my best friend’s outstretched arms.
“Awww, honey, you should have called me earlier. I would’ve been here hours ago,” she said, as I buried my head in her chest.
“This was supposed to be the happiest day of my life, Cass. What happened? Why did I let this happen?”
“It’ll get easier, Brookie – you’ll see,” she added reassuringly, as she ran her fingers through my tangled hair. “Why don’t we pop in a movie – I just so happened to grab Magic Mike out of the Redbox on my way over,” she said with a wink. “If Matthew McConaughey’s voice alone can’t make you ‘O’ then we have more serious issues than I thought.”
“Ohmigod, I think you have officially lost your damn mind,” I giggled. “But, thank you. You always seem to know what I need. And, a naked Channing Tatum is just what the doctor ordered.”
Just as I was setting a bowl of popcorn on the table and getting myself comfy on the couch, my phone rang. I startled from the sudden noise and reached out for it. Looking at the caller ID, I just stared at it for a few more rings.
“Cass, you need to answer it. I just can’t take this right now – especially not today.”

First of all, if you haven’t read Unwritten, book 1 in the series, what are you waiting for? Go read it, I’ll wait……… Done? Okay, that means you can go right ahead and move on to Unscripted. ;-)

Unscripted is the perfect conclusion to Rich and Brooke’s story that began in Unwritten. From the first page, M.C. Decker keeps you guessing about what is going to happen next. Every time I got through one potential heart attack inducing scene, another one popped up. I swear I was on the verge of tears several times over the course of reading. And if that wasn't enough, the ups, the downs and the unexpected plot twists will get you right in the feels.

I highly recommend both Unwritten and Unscripted if you’re looking for a great read.

12 Smart & Savvy Days of Christmas - Day 8 - Guest Post from MC Decker

Happy New Year! I'm a little late with the post, so apologies! I hope everyone had a great New Year's Eve and are enjoying the day. Today I welcome MC Decker to the blog and she's talking about her favorite Christmas specials. Welcome!!

Day 1 |Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5 | Day 6 | Day 7 | Day 8

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Top Five Christmas Specials:

1). Christmas Eve on Sesame Street – This holiday special has been on my ‘must watch’ list since I was just a little girl. Who doesn’t love the banter between Oscar the Grouch and Big Bird about ‘how Santa will fit down that skinny little chimney?’ Big Bird decides to solve the mystery himself by asking Santa, but everyone else panics as they think Big Bird has gone missing. The conundrum of how Santa actually fits down the tiny chimney is never really solved, but Santa does deliver presents and everyone, including Big Bird, is reunited on Christmas Eve once again. The story includes all of the beloved Sesame Street characters including Cookie Monster, Grover, Kermit and Bert and Ernie. If you haven’t seen this classic Christmas special, which originally aired in 1978, I recommend it for children, of all ages.

2). Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas – I know, I know … You are all saying to yourself, ‘Where’s ‘Frosty the Snowman,’ ‘Rudolph,’ or ‘Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town.’ .. And, what is ‘Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas’?’ This little-known holiday special, which was created by Jim Henson, was also a childhood favorite. I remember watching our taped, from television, scratchy version year-after-year. I hadn’t seen the clever special which features Emmet and Ma Otter for several years when I suddenly came across the DVD while shopping a few years back.

I quickly snatched it up and it has become a staple in my holiday viewing collection once again. And, this time, it is commercial free! The story features Emmet and his mother who form a Jug-Band in hopes of winning a holiday contest in order to purchase each other Christmas presents. The two encounter many obstacles along the way, including losing the competition to The Riverbottom Nightmare Band, but in the end they are able to earn enough money to purchase their gifts. Like my first selection, this special also includes Kermit as the guest narrator. I mean, who doesn’t love a holiday special that includes Kermit?

3). A Garfield Christmas – No, this one doesn’t include Kermit, but it does feature that orange, lasagna-loving cat and the always obnoxious Odie. I remember watching this television special each year following ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas.’ Charlie Brown will get an honorable mention on my list, but for some reason I don’t remember as many laughs as I do with Garfield and his friends. During the special, Garfield finds himself visiting Jon’s family on the old family farm. During the visit, Garfield learns a lot about Jon’s family as well as learning to understand the true meaning of Christmas. He even learns to love Odie in the process! I can’t wait to watch this one again this year.

4). How the Grinch Stole Christmas! – Nothing will ever compare to the original animated ‘Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!’ Sure, Jim Carrey gave it a whirl, and did a fairly decent job, but it just wasn’t the same as that slithery green animated creature who sews antlers on his dog and tries stealing Christmas from Cindy Lou Who and the rest of those in Whoville. Who knew that the Grinch’s heart would grow three sizes … not even the Whos knew. The score of this special also produced the classic, ‘You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch’ which happens to be my holiday ringtone for my husband!

5). Mickey’s Christmas Carol – I think this one is fairly self explanatory. Mickey Mouse + a cartoon adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic of ‘A Christmas Carol’ = Christmas fun for the entire family!

Honorable Mention: A Charlie Brown Christmas, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Bugs Bunny’s Looney Christmas Tales and He-Man and She-Ra: A Christmas Special

Release Day Blitz - Unwritten by M.C. Decker

Congratulations to M.C. Decker on her debut novel. Unwritten is now live!

I thought it was too late. I thought our story had already been written.

College sophomore Brooke Anderson thought she had it all − a loving family, her sexy high school sweetheart, a supportive, quick-witted best friend and dreams of being the next hotshot reporter for the Washington Post.

Fate had something else in mind when Brooke collided with the devastatingly handsome upperclassman, Rich Davis. Rich was cocky, conceited and arrogant. He was everything that Brooke didn’t want, but Rich never gave her the option. He had already made the choice to be, at the very least, her friend. Would Brooke accept this egotistical man’s friendship? Would she choose to want more? Would it be too late if she did?

Fast forward nearly ten years. Brooke’s life hadn’t played out quite as she had envisioned it. She was suffering from the heartbreaking loss of her mother, her high school sweetheart was long gone, and her dreams of the Washington Post had turned into a career at a small town paper. Brooke decided it was time to follow her dreams. If she couldn’t be happy in love, at least she could be happy in life.

Brooke’s dreams brought her to the lobby of the Washington Post where fate intervened once again as she collided with none other than the devastatingly handsome Rich Davis. As her potential employer, Rich now seemed off-limits. Brooke wanted her successful career more than a chance at love. But, was it really her choice to make, or was it beyond her control?

Maybe my story is, in fact, Unwritten …

We spent the morning, once again, interviewing some of Rich’s contacts at the Exchange. It started snowing just as we were exiting the building for lunch. I pulled my red, wool peacoat tighter to my chest and wrapped my knitted, white, infinity scarf closer to my neck. I was glad that I chose my knee-high boots rather than the black pumps I had originally unpacked this morning.
“Why don’t we skip our afternoon appointments and play hooky this afternoon,” Rich said.

“I have the perfect idea.”

“Did Rich Davis just suggest playing hooky?” I questioned in disbelief.

“Shockingly, I did,” he answered amusingly.

“You’ve come a long way since you referred to me as the ‘slacker-type.’”

“You never let me forget my arrogant ways, do you Miss Anderson? Now let’s go have some fun, shall we?”

How could I argue with this playful side of Rich?

“Lead the way, Mr. Davis,” I said with the widest possible smile on my face.

We took a cab back to The Plaza where Rich insisted I change into something warm and comfy. I went into my bedroom and changed into a pair of skinny jeans and my favorite white, cashmere sweater. I pulled on my pink Ugg boots and completed my ultimate snow-bunny look with my matching pink puffy jacket. After wrapping my scarf around my neck, I added a knit headband to cover my ears. I figured I would be prepared in case Rich was planning an outdoor activity.

I headed downstairs to the living room and noticed that Rich was already waiting for me, dressed in his winter gear.  I tried my best to hide my disappointment after seeing his ski jacket covering so much of his sexy body.

 “Where are we headed, Rich?”

“That’s my surprise, Brooke. You said you had never been to the city before and I thought we could have some fun and maybe tackle a couple of those locations that are probably in your precious Frommer’s Travel Guide.”

I soon realized, when Rich didn’t immediately hail a cab that we were walking across the street to Central Park. Rich’s hand clung to mine as we made our way through the gates and headed toward the signs that pointed toward the Wollman Rink.

“Oh my god, are we going ice skating?” I questioned, as I began jumping up and down on the sidewalk.

“Somehow, I knew you would love this. Is this part of your Home Again movie, too?” he asked.

I couldn’t help but laugh at Rich’s error. “First, it’s Home Alone and no, no ice skating. I’ve just always dreamt of skating in Central Park. And, we’re also so close to the zoo.”

“Well, I’m not sure if we’ll have time to make it to the zoo. If memory serves, it closes fairly early in the winter. But, I do have another surprise planned for this evening.”

Rich and I rented skates and glided over the ice for several hours. The snow started coming down more heavily as the afternoon flew by. After I was certain that my nose was going to fall off, Rich pulled me into a warm embrace. I gazed into his eyes and knew he was going to come in for a kiss. In that moment, I desired his kiss more than my next breath, but instead of letting my heart win, my head pulled away from Rich’s arms. “Just colleagues,” my inner voice whispered.

Although no words were spoken between us, the carefree atmosphere that had lingered between us all day began to fade away. I had ruined what would have been the most beautiful and romantic kiss in the middle of the Wollman Rink in Central Park. If our lips had met, the falling snow would have coated us both in a light dusting. My already rosy cheeks would have further flushed as a result of his tongue dancing with mine. But, I had ruined that picture-perfect moment. Instead, I just wanted to go back to my room and sulk. Why do I have to be so damn stubborn?

Even though I wanted to head back to the suite, Rich wouldn’t hear of it. He may have lost some of his earlier, carefree spunk, but he was still determined to show me the “right way to play hooky.”

“If you’re gonna be a slacker and play hooky, you might as well do it up right,” he kept saying.

“Go big, or go home,” I added.

We grabbed hot cocoas and hot dogs, minus the pickles for me, from a street vendor, before Rich waved down a cab to take us the few blocks to his surprise destination.

I laughed to myself when I realized we were stopping at Rockefeller Center. “Hey, this one is in the movie,” I said, as I lightly nudged him in the side.

“I figured. Any Christmas movie set in NYC has to include the tree here.”
It really was beautiful. As I stood there in Rockefeller Plaza looking up into the tree, illuminated by thousands of tiny white lights, I began thinking about how perfect this day had been. I didn’t want to leave because I was afraid of what tomorrow might bring. I didn’t want to think about Rich’s possible relationship with Janine, my career, or my reservations about us. I just wanted to stay here with Rich – forever.
