Review - Whirlpool by Cherry Adair

Whirlpool, the highly anticipated Cutter Cay novel by Cherry Adair, is live on all platforms. Read on for more info including my review.

A Love For The Ages...

Secrets & Lies

Treasure hunter Persephone Case is very good at what she does. But she’s even better at pirating, and the Cutter brothers are her only targets. For years, she’s played a game of cat and mouse in an attempt to get them to confront her. But it isn’t until she meets their new partner—and her wicked one weekend stand, Finn Gallagher, that she’s truly caught.

Artifacts Worth Killing For

Billionaire Finn Gallagher has a lot of interests--sunken treasures, space travel--and the fiery redhead who scorched a place in his mind and libido one weekend in Buenos Aires. So imagine his surprise when he finds her onboard his gigayacht, Blackstar, acting as an official for the Ministry of Antiquities. Convenient, because he can’t keep his hands off her.

An Ancient Prophesy

Unfortunately, what Persephone can’t seem to keep her hands off of are the golden tablets discovered on the ancient ship wrecks beneath the sea. Relics that foretell a dire prophesy. But Finn and Persephone aren’t the only ones after the tablets. Members of a radical Patagonian sect want the tablets too. And they’ll do anything to get their hands on them. Even kill...

Cherry Adair brings us back to the world of Cutter Cay in the highly anticipated Whirlpool. If you’ve been curious about the redhead aboard the Sea Witch who has been causing trouble for the Cutters be ready to have all your questions answered. Whirlpool exceeded all my expectations for Persephone’s (the redhead) story. It had surprises I wasn’t expecting and even made me tear up at certain parts. It was definitely worth the wait.

Always an adventurer in life as well as writing, best-selling author Cherry Adair moved halfway across the globe from Cape Town, South Africa to the United States.

She settled in beautiful San Francisco, where she started what eventually became a thriving interior design business. "I loved being a designer because it was varied and creative, and I enjoyed working with the public." A voracious reader when she was able to carve out the time, Cherry found her brain crowded with characters and stories of her own. "Eventually," she says, "the stories demanded to be told."

Cherry writes five to seven hours a day, six days a week. When asked why she chooses to write romantic suspense, she says, "Who says you can't have adventure and a great love life? Of course if you’re talking about an adventurous love life, that's another thing altogether. Actually I write romantic suspense with adventure because I like to entertain and nothing keeps readers happier than a rapid pulse with a happy ending." Popular on the workshop circuit, Cherry gives lively classes on writing and the writing life. Pulling no punches when asked how to become a published writer, Cherry insists, "Sit your butt in the chair and write. There's no magic to it. Writing is hard work. It isn't for sissies or whiners."
Their dream house finally complete, Cherry loves to spend time at home. A corner desk keeps her focused on writing, but the windows behind her, with a panoramic view of the front gardens, are always calling her to come outside and play. Her new office has nine-foot ceilings, a fireplace, a television and built-in bookcases that will house approximately 3,500 paperback books.

"What can I say? My keeper shelf has been breeding in the middle of the night, rather like dryclean wire clothes hangers."

Because she loves to entertain friends and family, Cherry’s favorite part of the house is her Tuscan kitchen, which features large terracotta tiles on both the floor and counter, and glossy cobalt blue tiles on the center island accented with a gorgeous hand painted tile mural over the stove.

Now that the inside of the house is completed, Cherry has turned her attention to the garden. She loves flowers, and everything in her garden has to do double duty. "If I can't see it, smell it or cover something over with it, it simply must go." Especially since the lake and view of snowcapped Mount Rainer is always in view.

Her other passions include laughing with David, reading, Ben & Jerry's Fudge Brownie ice cream, and her daily Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino. "Now if I could just get the two of them together and make Fudge Mocha Frappuccino ice cream, we'd really be in business."

T-FLAC is back in an exciting action-adventure romance filled with danger, subterfuge and steamy, red-hot attraction.

NO MEMORY OF HIS PAST

Powerful cartel leader Sin Diaz lives a dangerous life filled with secrets and lies, and surrounded by people who claim to have known him all his life. Yet flashes of another life, totally unrelated to the jungles of Cosio, hang tantalizingly on the edges of his memory. He'll trust no one until he recalls his true past.

NO DREAMS OF A FUTURE

T-FLAC operative Riva Rimaldi's mission is simple. Go undercover, learn terrorist Escobar Maza's agenda, then kill him. But when the helicopter she's on crashes deep in the jungle of the small, volatile country of Cosio, she finds herself in the wrong hands. Is the sexy as hell leader of the ANSL, Sin Diaz, the enemy of her enemy, worse than Maza himself? Or is he someone entirely different than his reputation – and will he become her lover?

TOGETHER THEY HOLD THE KEY

Sin and Riva must work together to stop a madman who will go to any lengths to attain his terrifying goal. But can they unravel the truth in time? The timer is ticking.

What they don’t know could get them killed.

T-FLAC operative Riva Rimaldi had a clear mental image of the chopper she was on: It was hurtling toward the ground, following a fiery explosion.

Five out of the six people on board would die. She was sorry she couldn't forewarn the two operatives accompanying her of their impending death. The warning would be useless and come too late. That was the bitch of her ability. When she received a vision, she knew precisely what would happen, but not precisely when. Even more of a bitch was that she while she could see the future, her ability to modify it was typically nonexistent. Riva had to let the nightmares that ran through her brain play out in real life.

She saw it as the pilot did. A bright, swiftly moving light headed up at them from the trees below.

“SAM.” Surface-to-air missile? Out here? In the middle of nowhere?

Curling into a ball around her duffel, one hand wrapped in the backpack’s straps, Riva braced for impact. She might as well kiss her ass good-bye. Despite what she'd seen, no one would survive the hit, and if she did, she’d wish she hadn't.

Between one heartbeat and the next, the missile slammed the tail with a loud, fiery explosion, spinning what was left of the chopper end over end. A blast furnace of heat engulfed her as she was thrown around the cabin like a rag doll. Everything gyrated like a kaleidoscope around her, as if she were separate from the event. In the split second when rational thought was possible, Riva knew she couldn't jump out. Even if she had a chute, which she didn't, she'd be sliced and diced like chopped salad by the swiftly spinning blades if she attempted it.

I’m screwed.

Primal fear set in and all she could do was scream as she, and what was left of the burning chopper, hurtled uncontrollably toward the trees.

New York Times/USAToday Bestselling author Cherry Adair’s innovative action-adventure novels have appeared on numerous bestsellers lists, won dozens of awards and garnered praise from reviewers and fans alike. With the creation of her kick butt counterterrorist group, T-FLAC, years before action adventure romances were popular, Cherry has carved a niche for herself with her sexy, sassy, fast-paced, action adventure novels. She hates first drafts, has a passion for mentoring unpublished writers, and is hard at work on a new T-FLAC trilogy. Cherry loves to hear from readers.

12 Smart & Savvy Days of Christmas - Day 7

Hope your Christmas was awesome! Thanks for stopping by and joining in the celebration!

On the seventh day of Christmas, Stephanie gave to me...

Cherry Adair!

Featured Author: Cherry Adair
Featured Book: Ricochet by Cherry Adair
Giveaways: E-book and autographed paperbacks by Cherry

Today we welcome Cherry Adair to our celebration and we are talking about Christmas in Venice, reading and more.

Stephanie: What Christmas movies are a must watch?

Cherry: Scrooged

Stephanie: Fresh or fake Christmas tree?

Cherry: Fake because I start decorating on the 1st of November J and by the time I’ve finished loading sparklies on the tree, no one can see the tree itself anyway.

Stephanie: I personally have on my wish list to visit New York and London during the holidays to see each city lit up and decorated. Do you have any place you'd like to see during the holidays?

Cherry: My favorite place at Christmas-time is Venice, Italy. It’s magical with the lights reflecting off the Canal, and all the winding, cobbled streets festive with lights and decorations.

Stephanie: What was the best and worst gift you have ever received?

Cherry: Worst? Perm rods!

Stephanie: Would you rather have a winter Christmas or summer Christmas ?

Cherry: I spent half my life having Summer Christmas in South Africa. We’d spend the day at the beach. I much prefer a cold winter Christmas in front if a roaring fire.

Stephanie: Do you read outside the genre that you write? If so, what genres?

Cherry: I love Regencies, and historical romances.

Stephanie: Are you from a reading family?

Cherry: No. My family loves the outdoor, and doing – I like to curl up with a good book. At least while they were out ‘doing’ the house was quiet so I could read in peace! lol

Stephanie: What do you prefer e-book, paperback or hardcover?

Cherry: I swore I’d never switch from paper to eBook. I love the feel and smell of a ‘real' book. I have a library filled with ‘real’ books. I’d never ever switch… That was until I took a recent trip to Europe, and rather than pack 20 books, loaded my iPad with 30 new books to take with me. What an eye opener! I loved how easy it was, how convenient to finish one book, and have another right there at my fingertips to read next. Having them on an eReader while I was on vacation was one thing, but I was pretty sure I’d switch back once I returned home. . .Then I realized that there was a Kindle app. An app that made it possible for me to read on my phone – Anywhere! Love, love, love being able to read in the doctor’s office, or standing in a long line anywhere. I always had a book in my purse. But I might’ve been on the last few pages, and run out when I’m somewhere far from home. With my phone, I have access to as many books as I want at any time. It’s magical!!

Stephanie: What's your favorite place and or time to read ?

Cherry: Anytime, anywhere. It’s hard to carve out reading time when I’m always on deadline, and should be *writing*. So whenever I have the opportunity to read, I snatch it. I love long lines in stores at Christmas time. lol

Stephanie: When you have a new book go “live” on release date, how do you feel? Nervous, excited?

Cherry: Always excited. I love imagining people I don’t know, settling down to read one of my books.

The exact etymology of the term "boxing day" is unclear. There are several competing theories, none of which is definitive. The European tradition, which has long included giving money and other gifts to those who were needy and in service positions, has been dated to the Middle Ages, but the exact origin is unknown. It is believed to be in reference to the Alms Box placed in places of worship to collect donations to the poor. Also, it may come from a custom in the late Roman/early Christian era, wherein metal boxes placed outside churches were used to collect special offerings tied to the Feast of Saint Stephen, which in the Western Church falls on the same day as Boxing Day.

In Britain, it was a custom for tradesmen to collect "Christmas boxes" of money or presents on the first weekday after Christmas as thanks for good service throughout the year. This is mentioned in Samuel Pepys' diary entry for 19 December 1663. This custom is linked to an older English tradition: since they would have to wait on their masters on Christmas Day, the servants of the wealthy were allowed the next day to visit their families. The employers would give each servant a box to take home containing gifts and bonuses, and maybe sometimes leftover food.

What do you do the day after Christmas? Recover? Shop? Sleep?

Author Spotlight - Cherry Adair

Today the AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT is shining down on New York Times Bestselling Author Cherry Adair. As an author, Cherry brings you books that are just the right mixture of romance and suspense and, whether you are reading one for the first time or the tenth, they will keep you hooked from the beginning. As a person, Cherry is a fascinating, smart and witty woman. I’ve had the pleasure of spending time with her on several occasions and you never know what kind of fun you might be in for. Today we’re going to talk to Cherry about her T-FLAC series.

Stephanie: T-FLAC is a favorite series among your readers. I know it’s one of my favorites. How did the idea for T-FLAC come about?
Cherry: Ahh. Marc and Tori. <g> I came up with the idea for T-FLAC on a verrrrry long flight home from a wonderful trip in Italy. I'd written 17 books- none of which sold, although I had a lot of bites, and had no intention of writing on the plane. But things conspired against me.
First, I ran out of books several days before the flight. Only a fellow book-a-holic knows the panicky, freaked out feeling of being bookless – for an hour, let alone a dozen! I ended up buying a thick book at the airport by an author I loved, for $80.00! Of course I'd already read it, but I tried to make it last once buckled into my seat.
In those days everyone still smoked on planes. I smoked, too, so I didn't give it much thought. . .But OMG I was on a plane full of Europeans – and they LOVED to smoke, and talk, and gather in large, boisterous groups right near my seat! I finished the book in an hour, and was faced with eleven, long, boring, noisy, smoky hours to go without a lethal weapon or even a parachute! lol
In desperation, I started writing longhand in my notebook. Since I was feeling quite homicidal at that time, and since my subjects were within arm’s reach, I decided to kill them all on paper (less possibility of going to jail that way) And since I didn't want to write about a serial killer, I had to come up with a way to kill a lot of people legally. Lol
So I started with who the Bad Guys would be (eyes left – all those freaking men standing in a large group, the entire freaking flight, chain smoking, drinking, talking and getting on my last nerve. Check.)
I loved Italy. LOVED IT! So of course my story had to take place there. At that time, publishers weren't buying books set outside the USA. (Can you see a pattern here?) But I didn't care. This book was being written as a means of preventing my incarceration into a mental institution. (Killing the smokers + nothing to read = Murder/Insanity)
And T-FLAC was born. J (and I gave up smoking cold turkey. Lol)I typed the book when I got home (my handwriting is almost completely illegible) and sent it in. The editor bought in within two weeks. WooHoo. That wrenched flight was so worth it. <G>

Stephanie: Do you have a favorite T-Flac character that you've written?

Cherry: My favorite character is always the guy in the book I'm currently writing. It has to be. I have to love him, or I won't be able to write him. But I must admit, Marc Savin from The Mercenary will always have a place in my heart because he was my first. And we always remember our first, right J

Stephanie: You just released an enhanced version of KISS AND TELL. What can readers expect with the enhanced version?
Cherry: As I write each book, I have a huge, three ring binder on my desk to keep all my notes and all my research in some semblance of order. I not only keep hundreds of pages of research in it, but also everything about each character, even the secondary characters, I pretty much know everything, especially for my hero and heroine, from birth to the day their story starts. Most of it never gets into the book. It's just too much information, too much detail, and would slow the story down.
Whenever fellow writers come to my house, they love going through the binders, and have told me for years that my readers would also LOVE to know this, or that. Until e books became so accessible, I had no way to share all this 'bonus' material with anyone unless they came to my house and sat in my office to pour over each binder. lol
The enhanced version has no changes in the actual book itself. There are bonus pages in the back, with all the 'extras.' How and why the book was written, titles I considered at the time, interviews, and stories about the character development. There are details about all things T-FLAC, and pictures I collected while writing the book (not all of them- the book would be longer than War & Peace!) Fun stuff I think my readers will find interesting when they reread Kiss and Tell.

Stephanie: What can we expect next in the series?
Cherry: Next is the enhanced version of OUT OF SIGHT (The book which got me into trouble with the dreaded C.A.M.E.L Union lol) The novella SNOWBALL'S CHANCE, and a brand new T-FLAC novella RICOCHET.
